Why NOT to Give Away Pets for Free

NEVER give pets away for free. Pets given away for free can wind up in some truly horrible situations, including:

As dog fighting bait
As lab animals in animal testing facilities
As breeding animals in puppy mills
With animal abusers who pose as/pretend to be a loving owner

It is always best to rehome a pet through an animal shelter. At the very least, charge an adoption fee to ensure that who takes your pet is not just someone who is searching online for a free bait animal. It is even better to only rehome pets to someone you actually know and trust.

90 percent of the time, when an owner gives away a pet, the pet is not spayed or neutered. This significantly contributes to the pet overpopulation problem!
